A hybrid form of weaving and macrame. Using a support piece and warp yarns, we will build a design through a series of decorative knots. The finished piece can remain on the support or be used as a pliable textile piece for use in other applications such as a pillow or a purse.

Construct a decorative piece with heat reactive thermal plastics. We will use Lumiere mica paints and alcohol markers to add color and various stamps to create texture. The finished piece can be fashioned into jewelry pieces, ornaments or elements for mixed media.

Come explore the mystery of image transferring. Explore the use of chemical transfer and medium transfer agents. Apply your image to paper or fabric. The process produces a distressed ethereal Rauschenberg image. Transfered images can be used in mixed media, textile pieces, or surface design.

The modern medium air dries to a hard solid state that can be painted and gilded to produce stunning decorative pieces for keepsakes and admiration. Part one will include fabricating and casting embellishments and applying them to the pot. Part two will involve an old-world painting process with matte paints and washes followed by antiquing and gilding wax finish to a classic terracotta pot to create an elegant complement for any patio.

A dyeing process that utilizes UV exposure. Join us and create an unique textile piece found objects, negative images and 3D objects. The dye changes color and becomes permanent when exposed to light. We will apply the medium to fabric, choose the image, expose the piece to light and finish the procedure. The process allows for extreme detail and novel forms even for tone on tone designs.

After turning 70, due to various medical reasons, Susan could not stand at her easel to paint.  When her husband, Bob, saw how she missed painting, he bought her an IPad and Procreate (a digital painting program).  Susan was amazed at the results.  It was just like painting an oil on canvas, but she could do it in her easy chair.

“Painting on a screen is so much like painting on a canvas or paper.  You choose what medium you want to recreate, then pick the brushes, pencil, or even charcoal to work with that medium.  Next you choose a color pallet to work with.  Now it is time to create, using the same techniques.”

Susan says that she may be getting older, but she will never stop learning.  Each new painting is a learning experience.

A Native American traditional art form: our class will use a type of stitch used to fasten or interlock the coils together creating a geometric and repeating design. A modern twist involves recycled material and sculptural elements of positive and negative space.

Try your hand at marbleizing with the traditional method of Suminagashi marbleizing. Celebrate the Japanese art of floating ink on water. Working with brushes, drops and other tools, you will watch as the ink dances across the water to create flowing, swirling geometric designs on paper.

Use seed beads in a traditional indigenous method of stringing. Peyote is a brickwork pattern that uses a needle and beading thread to form shapes and patterns. Like all our AA classes you explore history, techniques and materials like seed bead sizing and shapes, beading needle sizing and styles, and beading threads. Choose your colors and pattern to build a unique piece.

Pauly Tamez is an abstract expressionist and impressionistic landscape painter whose work is an exploration of color, form, and emotion. Primarily working in oil paints, Pauly creates compositions that pulsate with energy and invites viewers into a world of boundless creativity. His watercolor studies serve as a foundation for larger oil paintings, allowing for a deep exploration of the Texas landscape that ultimately informs his abstract work Through the intentional use of contrasting and complementary colors, as well as fluid, organic shapes, Pauly aims to evoke a range of emotions and inspire others to embrace their own creative spirit. Deeply influenced by the mentorship of renowned Texas landscape painters Bill Zaner and David Caton, Pauly continues to evolve his artistic practice while honoring the legacy of his mentors.
