Quilling

Tuesday, January 27 | 7-9PM

Learn the renaissance art of paper filigree. We will turn strips of paper into sculptural designs. Explore the terms and tools of this historic art form and build your three-dimensional art form skills. Roll, loop, twist, and curl your way to wonderful experience. The Renaissance art of paper manipulation once adorned books, cabinets, and purses. In our class, we will focus on modern applications of this enjoyable art form constructing a design that will complement any wall, card, or jewelry piece. 

Punch Needle

Tuesday, February 10 | 7-9PM

Come make friends and art. Delve into fiber arts with an evening focused on a primitive art form somewhere between embroidery and rug hooking. Work with various yarns of color, texture, and content. Discover the simple process of creating loops to construct a design and apply a backing for a complete project. 

Alcohol Ink Painting

Tuesday, February 17 | 7-9PM

Work with this highly pigmented alcohol-based ink. The bold colors and metallic hues bond to nonporous surfaces. Learn how to use brushes, blending solutions, and masks to apply the inks to an object for a stunning keepsake. Add a whimsical saying and watch your creation be the next viral sensation. 

Whimsy Wire Wrapping

Join us in making a whimsical element for your home or garden. We will venture into wire wrapping and fabrication with beads to design fanciful décor.We use professional jeweler's tools bending, coiling and weaving wire around on itself capturing beads and stone elements.

Paper Making

Tuesday, March 10 | 7-9PM

Included in this ancient art form will be traditional dip and pour methods to create handmade paper. Learn to add embellishments and color into your paper. Finish several sheets of paper to be included in your handmade Art Book. This class is the first in the series of our book making class series. Take one, two or all three, they stand alone as well. 

Cover Mania

Tuesday, March 24 | 7-9PM

The second class in the series involves creating a cover for our book. We will be using the paper with made in session one along with other paper and paper from you stash. The cover will consist of layering techniques. We will combine paper, mediums, ephemera, inks, and embellishments. Build a removable cover for and existing book, add a simple sewn, or continue in the third class in the series to put in all together in a Coptic bound book. 

Book Binding

Tuesday, March 31 | 7-9PM

Our third class in the series puts our papers into our cover. We will combine the pages into sections and sew them into the cover. Try your hand at making a simple art journal or continue your Art Book as we bind it together with a Coptic binding. An art form from the 2nd century, Coptic book binding involves sewing paper pages together to incorporate into a bound book. We will manufacture a bound book using this sewing technique that allows a book to lie flat. If you do not participate in the other 2 classes, you can still complete a book and learn the process with materials provided.

Polymer Clay Canes (Pt. 1)

Tuesday, April 14 | 7-9PM

Explore additional skills in polymer clay. If you took our previous polymer clay class or you just want to try your hand at a new medium, this class is for you. We will be making canes such as bullseye, graduated, floral, etc. These colorful coils are the basis for more complex designs like kaleidoscopes, flowers, and mosaics. Canes are formed with multiple colors adding metallics and foils for some emphasis. The class is designed in 2 parts, take one or both. We will combine the canes in the next class to create a slab or a tile. Use the tile as it is or form a slab that can be used for jewelry pieces and embellishments. 

Polymer Clay Tiles (Pt. 2)

Tuesday, April 21 | 7-9PM

To continue with our canes, we begin slicing and combining pieces to create a slab or tile. In addition, we will investigate texture with cutters, stamps, and stencils to build a collection of shapes into a finished piece. Discover the ways to use your slab in other creations such as earrings, beads, mixed media elements.  

Wet Felting

Tuesday, April 28 | 7-9PM

Come explore the fiber art of wet felting. Add layers of fiber, color, and texture to fabricate felt. The process of manipulating wool fiber through agitation results in a luxurious piece of felt fabric. Embellish with color and synthetic metallic fibers to add sheen, interest, and imagery. Use the fabric in appliqué, embroidery, needle felting or jewelry projects. 

Powder Coating

Tuesday, May 12 | 7-9PM

The art of applying a powdered pigment and curing with a heat source. Our class will include fabricating a metal blank from copper, the process of applying powder coat to the metal blank, finishing, and adding jewelry finding to construct a finished piece. Add layers of color to bare metal to build a perfect accessory piece that will complement any outfit. 

Stained Glass (2 Pt. Series)

Art AfterHours: Stained Glass (2-Part Class)

Whether you’re a seasoned artist or someone who’s never picked up a glass cutter, this class is your chance to dive into something truly luminous. In this two-part workshop, you’ll explore the timeless art of stained glass — using richly colored glass, tinted with metallic salts, to design and create your very own stained glass art piece.

Ring Making

Tuesday, June 16 | 7-9PM

Learn the art of metal smithing by creating beautiful, stacked rings with non ferrous metal. We work on sizing, filing, soldering, and finishing. Practice torch firing, metal texturing, and polishing techniques. Gain all the basic skills to begin your exploration of metals. 

Gel Plate Printing

Tuesday, June 23 | 7-9PM

Enjoy an evening of mono printing on gel plates. Mineral based, flexible plates can be layered with paints, inks, and other mediums. The class will focus on rubbings, texture, and layers to build unique prints and cards. If you want to explore mixed media, color, printing, and collage concepts in a relaxed and intriguing new medium, an evening gel printing is for you.  

Discharge Dyeing

Tuesday, June 30 | 7-9PM

In this intriguing class, we will pull the dye from colored fabric. Through chemical reaction process, we create pattern and imagery removing and replacing color. Learn how dye colors are made by reversing the procedure. Explore a variety of tools such as stamps, stencils, and brushes to remove color and add color back with permanent textile paints. 

Peyote Stitch

Tuesday, July 14 | 7-9PM

Use seed beads in a traditional indigenous method of stringing. Peyote is a brickwork pattern that uses a needle and beading thread to form shapes and patterns. Like all our AA classes you explore history, techniques and materials like seed bead sizing and shapes, beading needle sizing and styles, and beading threads. Choose your colors and pattern to build a unique piece.

Suminagashi Ink

Tuesday, July 21 | 7-9PM

Try your hand at marbleizing with the traditional method of Suminagashi marbleizing. Celebrate the Japanese art of floating ink on water. Working with brushes, drops and other tools, you will watch as the ink dances across the water to create flowing, swirling geometric designs on paper. 

Coil Basket with Recycled Materials

Tuesday, July 28 | 7-9PM

A Native American traditional art form: our class will use a type of stitch used to fasten or interlock the coils together creating a geometric and repeating design. A modern twist involves recycled material and sculptural elements of positive and negative space. 

Solar Printing

Tuesday, August 11 | 7-9PM

A dyeing process that utilizes UV exposure. Join us and create an unique textile piece found objects, negative images and 3D objects. The dye changes color and becomes permanent when exposed to light. We will apply the medium to fabric, choose the image, expose the piece to light and finish the procedure. The process allows for extreme detail and novel forms even for tone on tone designs. 

Paper Clay Vintage Pots (2 Pt. Series)

Tuesday, August 18 & 25 | 7-9PM

Adorn a terracotta pot with cast ornaments. Discover old world architectural embellishments through the process of mould casting, paint, and gilding wax. The modern medium air dries to a hard solid state that can be painted and gilded to produce stunning decorative pieces for keepsakes and admiration. Part one will include fabricating and casting embellishments and applying them to the pot. Part two will involve an old-world painting process with matte paints and washes followed by antiquing and gilding wax finish to a classic terracotta pot to create an elegant complement for any patio. 

Image Transfer

Tuesday, September 8 | 7-9PM

Come explore the mystery of image transferring. Explore the use of chemical transfer and medium transfer agents. Apply your image to paper or fabric. The process produces a distressed ethereal Rauschenberg image. Transfered images can be used in mixed media, textile pieces, or surface design. 

Wood Veneer Marquetry (2 Pt. Series)

Tuesday, September 15 & 22 | 7-9PM

A traditional art form of cutting designs from wood veneer and applying them to another substrate. Try your hand at crafting a motif from various wood veneers using both conventional and modern methods. Class one focuses on design and cutting. Class two will assemble, glue, add color, and finish to complete the project in this two-part class. 

Embossed Thermal Plastic

Tuesday, October 6 | 7-9PM

Construct a decorative piece with heat reactive thermal plastics. We will use Lumiere mica paints and alcohol markers to add color and various stamps to create texture. The finished piece can be fashioned into jewelry pieces, ornaments or elements for mixed media. 

Macrame Weaving

Tuesday, October 13 | 7-9PM

A hybrid form of weaving and macrame. Using a support piece and warp yarns, we will build a design through a series of decorative knots. The finished piece can remain on the support or be used as a pliable textile piece for use in other applications such as a pillow or a purse. 

Glass Etching

Tuesday, October 20 | 7-9PM

Known also as French embossing, we will use a modern method to create personalized etched piece. Choose from a pendant of colored glass or a functional piece like a wine glass. Pick your design and make a ghostly glass piece of your very own.
