Longhorns Arrive in Boerne!
Public Art Master Plan Kick Off Grand Success!
On Saturday, August 28, 2010, the Hill Country Council for the Arts (HCCArts) and the Boerne Gateway Committee announced their proposed Public Art Master Plan (PAMP) with the unveiling of two large bronze longhorns installed near Ye Kendall Inn, Boerne. In addition, four bronze maquettes were viewed at various Boerne businesses throughout the day.
Through the generosity of the Dallas non-profit, Texas Trees Foundation, the bronze sculptures and four bronze maquettes have been loaned for three months, through the end of November 2010, to introduce monumental scale public art to the community. Attendees met with key representatives from the Gateway Committee, Texas Trees Foundation, and HCCArts members to hear about the PAMP project and how these public sculptures have enriched the lives of Dallas residents and visitors alike.
As a result of the partnership forged with the City of Boerne, the Boerne Convention and Visitors Bureau, Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce, Texas Trees Foundation, 2nd Saturday Art & Wine, and a plethora of local art galleries, banks and businesses, the installation of two monumental longhorn by Texas artist, Robert Summers, was completed within Boerne's Hill Country Mile for Saturday's event.
Sponsors for this kickoff were Ye Kendall Inn, COSAS Gallery, Highland House Gallery, Carriage House Gallery of Artists, J. R. Mooney Fine Art Gallery, Bear Moon Bakery, Boerne Banking Center, Burlap Horse, and Texas Heritage Bank. Be sure to visit these Boerne locations and thank them for their generous support of this ongoing PAMP project on behalf of the Boerne community.
HCCArts gratitude went out to the Native Plant Society and Friends of No. 9. Invaluable assistance was also given by the City of Boerne Electric Department who installed the bronzes in 100 degree weather, and Parks and Recreation for delivery and spreading of soil and placement of gravel rocks. In addition, there were many individuals who personally helped with materials and/or labor.
Fundraising for acquisition of public art began several months ago. With your continued donation support, the longhorn bronze sculptures, with the addition of a large-scale Trail Boss, Black Cutter or Vaquero, will be purchased as added foundation artworks to Boerne's Public Art Collection. HCCArts is the lead organization for the City's gateways and public art fundraising project. Charitable donations and/or pledges can be made to Boerne PAMP Public Art Fund through the website payment center or mailed to Hill Country Council for the Arts, c/o Boerne Public Art Fund, P.O. - Business Committee for the Arts Public Art Forum, November 5
- Great Western Trail Community Day, November 20
